New consumption habits & listeria infections

Have you heard about a bacteria called Listeria?

Listeria monocytogenes is a well-known and feared bacteria, specially when it comes to the agri-food industry. This widespread bacteria posses a great resistance to particular conditions and, because of that, it can be considered as a potential source of food contamination, specially in the case of ready-to-eat food.

Listeriosis, which is the illness caused by this bacteria, is one of the most dangerous foodborne zoonosis. Although fortunately it doesn’t present a high incident rate, we should bear in mind that its mortality rate can reach up to 50% in risk groups like elderly people, children, pregnant women or immunodeficient persons.

An uptick of food poisoning has been detected in recent years mainly as the consequence of two situations: incorrect food manipulation and the introduction of new consumption habits (sushi, ready-to-eat fresh salads, ready-to-eat dishes…). Apart from that, the consumption of off-season products coming from remote places could increase the microorganism load since this food is stocked for a longer period of time.

In order to prevent undesirable contamination, companies need to stablish action protocols and specific measures so that critical points can be controlled and therefore contamination avoided. BactiBlock®, being effective against  Listeriarepresents a powerful tool to fight against this situation. This antimicrobial technology can be easily integrated into many different objets used in the food industry such as:

  • Packaging
  • Plastic film
  • Disposable material
  • Refrigerators
  • Truck interiors
  • Security shoes
  • Globes
  • Floorings
  • Coatings
  • Conveyor belts

Most of the materials used in the manufacturing of the mentioned equipment are susceptible of being treated with BactiBlock® technology. And thanks to this action, surfaces will be able to reduce Listeria load by ≥ 99% according to ISO 22196 standard.

Please, get in touch with us for further information about the best options among our antimicrobial additives for your product. Just by adding a small concentration of BactiBlock® the impact will be huge. We will be happy to work with you in the development of your new antimicrobial solution.
