New microorganisms arrived at our lab!

Silver and, in particular, BactiBLock has been successfully tested against Klebsiella pneumonia and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and what’s more, these two microorganisms are now available at our laboratory for testing. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for further information!
Did you know that Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is causing plenty of challenging infections nowadays?
Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacteria that, in spite of being present in human microbiota, cause a wide variety of clinical diseases. Infections caused by this pathogen are common both in community-acquired and hospital-acquired settings. Wounds, surgical interventions or a weakened immune system are perfect routes of entry for this microorganism. Nevertheless, the treatment still remains challenging due to the emergence of multi-drug resistant strains such as MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
Common infections related to this microorganism are cystitis, pneumonia, sepsis (blood infection) or skin wounds. MRSA spreads through body fluids of infected people but not only! MRSA also spreads through surfaces having had contact with the pathogen!
And what about Klebsiella pneumoniae?
Klebsiella pneumoniae is also present in human microbiota, in particular in our guts. It has been identified as an important pathogen causing pneumonia, septicaemia, urinary tract infections or wound infections. A weakened immune system would be enough to get one of these healthcare-associated infections.
To get a Klebsiella pneumonia infection, a person must be exposed to the bacteria. For example, Klebsiella must enter the respiratory (breathing) tract to cause pneumoniae, or the blood to cause a bloodstream infection. However, as in the case of MRSA, it is also possible to get an infection through contaminated surfaces.
