BactiBlock VS other silver-based additives

Differences among the various silver-based additives available in the market are substantial. We should bear in mind that the fact of using the same active substance doesn’t mean that they are equivalent. Of course, silver content is important and could be a key factor. But the specific technology used to encapsulate silver will definitively have a greater impact on their performance. Aspects like silver release control, dispersion capability or stability are directly related to the fact of achieving positive results.
Taking this into consideration, the best way of making a comparison between silver-based additives is testing treated final products according to a method measuring antimicrobial activity on surfaces such as ISO 22196 / JIS Z 2801. We will then be able to check the performance of the additive and the real antimicrobial effect in our final product.
In order to provide some useful data in this regard, Laboratorios Argenol launched a set of trials in paints & plastics (non-porous surfaces) containing different silver-based additives. The results obtained confirmed BactiBlock performance compared to other silver-based additives at a similar addition level.
