BactiBlock proves its long-lasting antimicrobial effect in plastics

Both Bactiblock technologies, clay-based and glass-based, have demonstrated the durability of the antimicrobial protection when incorporated into different polymers.

The final products containing Bactiblock have been subjected to humidity and UV-light aging treatments. The aim of these tests was to demonstrate that the antimicrobial properties will remain active in the plastic and the results obtained have been highly satisfactory.

The UV-light aging treatment consisted of exposing the plastics to UV light during 2000h, simulating the effect of the sun light on their surfaces.
Meanwhile, the water resistance test consisted of immersing the samples at 50ºC during 60 hours.
These tests performed are based on the standards developed by the SIAA ( The Society of International sustaining growth for Antimicrobial Articles).

All the combinations of polymers-additives have succesfully overcome the antimicrobial activity required by the standards mentioned above.

The desire for protection from moulds, viruses, bacteria (microbes of all kinds) did not begin with the COVID-19 pandemic. In 800 BC, Homer’s epic poems, Iliad and Odyssey, contained references to using sulphur to control fungal disease. Ancient Egyptian embalmers...
